We did it!

When I was in high school, I got to give a speech at my graduation. It was great. I remember I was able to get some laughs and felt good about it after.

My favorite part of it was by far the last line that I blatantly plagiarized from one of my favorite movies, Legally Blonde. It came at the end of the movie when Elle was chosen by her peers to deliver a similar graduation speech. She said “We did it!” with the enthusiasm of a boss bitch ready to take on the world.

Everyone, we did it.

Baby girl is coming earth side this autumn.

To say I am still a little shocked is an understatement. She’s really coming. I’ve never felt more grateful in my life. When she kicks, I get excited without fail. Even when it feels like a sledgehammer. Even when she decides to have a dance party at 1 a.m. She’s coming. I did it. We did it.

It’s also been one of the most terrifying times of my life. Part of me never wants her to leave my belly. She’s safe in there. Nothing and nobody can get to her and hurt her in there.

But on the flip side…

This hasn’t been an easy pregnancy. I actually lost weight at the start due to all of the vomiting. I have an overproduction of saliva that doesn’t seem to want to go away. My blood pressure is wonky as a person with chronic hypertension. I failed my glucose test…twice. I feel like a bowling ball with legs and I haven’t seen below my waist in months. I’m forgetting what it even looks like down there!.

And yet, it’s still amazing. Through tears about not being able to put on my socks, I’ve also found I am still grateful.

That’s the slightly kooky thing about getting what you’ve always dreamed about. It can be come about in weird ways, but if you remember why you prayed or wished for it in the first place – and if that feeling is still there, buried under the sardine food cravings – you’ll be ok.

I made it to my maternity photos and my baby showers. We have her room mostly done. She’s already so loved by family and friends. Joy surrounds her. And nobody loves her more than her father and I.

We did it.
